Champions League-bound Newcastle finally unveil ‘NO kanji’ jersey…Saudi-sponsored

Newcastle United have unveiled their new season kit. Gone are the kanji sponsors from the old jerseys.

Newcastle unveiled its new kit on Monday (Sept. 9), saying, “We are delighted to announce our new kit for the 2023-24 season. It will feature the UEFA Champions League (UCL) logo on the sleeve. The first time in 20 years.”

Newcastle finished fourth in the English 메이저사이트 Premier League (EPL) in the 2022-23 season. At the start of the season, few expected Newcastle to finish in the top four. Under the leadership of head coach Eddie Howe, Newcastle held onto the top four until the end of the season. They ended up playing in the Champions League next season.

When Newcastle introduced their new kit, they said, “The collar and sleeve ends are inspired by retro designs from the 1980s. The white and black stripes on the background are a symbol of our team,” the club explained, adding, “It represents moving into a new era with Eddie Howe as our manager.”

The most prominent feature is the main sponsor logo on the chest. Newcastle’s previous main sponsor was an online betting company called ‘FUN88’. The company was founded in 2009 and sponsored Newcastle as well as other Premier League teams like Tottenham and Burnley. The logo featured Chinese characters.

The Premier League gradually sought to reduce the amount of sponsorship from betting companies. In a few years, all Premier League teams won’t be able to be sponsored by bookmakers. As a result, Newcastle’s main sponsorship deal for the new season is with SELA rather than FUN88. SELA is a Saudi Arabian sports events company.

Peter Silverstone, Newcastle’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are delighted to unveil our new home shirt design for next season. We wish our players every success in these kits. We’re looking forward to making history with SELA, and we’re grateful to the store brand for creating a great design.”

“This is a kit that our fans will be proud to wear. We’re excited to wear it at St. James’ Park in the new season and to be playing in the Champions League.”
