Will the reigning Cy Young ace hit the trade market?
Major League Baseball’s official website (MLB.com) has reported that Cleveland Cavaliers ace Shane Bieber, 28, the 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner, could be traded.
MLB.com listed 10 players who could be traded on Tuesday (Feb. 20) and included Bieber’s name.
“Cleveland currently trails the Minnesota Twins by 2.5 games in the American League Central. But Cleveland could trade him if they don’t 스포츠토토 see themselves as a true title contender, given that they’re 33-38 and Bieber is in a position to make more than $10 million next year because it’s his last year of salary arbitration eligibility,” MLB.com explains.
Teams in the market for an ace pitcher would certainly have their mouths watering. “The 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner has started 15 games this year, allowing two earned runs or fewer in nine of them, and has thrown a league-high 95 innings,” says MLB.com, noting that Bieber has been consistently strong this season.
According to MLB.com, the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, and Baltimore Orioles are the top three contenders for Bieber’s services. Of the three, the Dodgers were the first to be mentioned, which means they are the No. 1 favorite.
Bieber made his major league debut with Cleveland in 2018 and went 15-8 with a 3.28 ERA in 214 1/3 innings in 2019, earning his first All-Star nod, and then went 8-1 with a 1.63 ERA in the shortened 2020 season, earning his first Cy Young Award. Last year, he went 13-8 with a 2.88 ERA in exactly 200 innings pitched, and he has continued to pitch well this year with a 5-4 record and 3.51 ERA.
His most recent start came on April 18 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In that outing, Beaver took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in seven and a third innings, with his fastball topping out at 93.5 mph (150 km/h).
